VATICAN II AND MARY - IX
The spirit of preaching and worship of the Virgin
The sacred synod teaches this Catholic doctrine and at the same time, urges every son of the Church generously to practice the cult, especially the liturgical cult, in respect of the Blessed Virgin, to be held in great esteem the practices and exercises of devotion that the character Marian magisterium of the Church recommends since centuries to religiously observe what in the past has been decided as to worship images of Christ, the Blessed Virgin and the saints. In addition, he urged strongly theologians and preachers to abstain carefully from any false exaltation, as also of any narrow-minded when they have to consider the special dignity of the Mother of God. For the study, conducted under the guidance of the Magisterium, the Holy Scripture, the Holy Fathers, the doctors and liturgy of the Church, they must adequately explain the role and privileges of the Blessed Virgin which is facing Christ, the source of all truth, sanctity and devotion. In their words or their actions, they must carefully avoid anything that could mislead the separated brethren or any other person, about the true doctrine of the Church. Let the faithful remember moreover that true devotion consists neither in sterile or transitory affection, nor in a certain vain credulity, but rather, it proceeds from true faith, which leads us to recognize the primacy Mother of God impels us to love our son to Mother and the imitation of her virtues.
